Smoke Alarm Compliance Brisbane

There are a number of requirements for smoke alarm installations to meet current compliance legislation in Brisbane.

Any smoke alarms installed in a property for rent or sale must not be:

300mm or less from a corner of ceiling or wall
400mm or less from an air conditioning vent
300mm or less from a light fitting
400mm or less from the blade of a fan

Any smoke detectors not fitted according to these measurements are considered to be located in a “Dead air Space”, and are not compliant with current legislative requirements.

On the 1st of January 2022, Queensland compliance legislation will expand to include the following requirements for rental properties:

There must be a smoke alarm installed in every bedroom
Smoke alarms must be powered by either a 240-volt or a 10-year lithium battery
All smoke alarms must be connected to each other
All smoke alarms must be photoelectric (as opposed to ionisation)
Every smoke alarm must comply with AS3786:2014
